Description

This Russian native now is a common weed in much of North America and Europe. In parts of Asia, it’s cultivated as a root vegetable as part of the regular diet.

Growing 2–5 feet tall, with a thick woody stem and deep roots, you can spot Burdock in country pastures and along fencerows. It is recognized by its purple flowers and round burrs that are known for sticking to hikers’ clothing. In the 1940s, Swiss engineer George de Mestral examined these burrs after they clung to his clothing ~ an observation that eventually inspired the VELCRO® hook-and-loop fastener.

Burdock has a bitter and sweet taste which makes for a delicious and earthy tea. Enjoy!

Suggested Use

Recommended Use: About Burdock Root - This tea features an earthy, slightly sweet and bitter taste with a robust, grounding mouthfeel. When brewed, it yields a deep, golden infusion. Certified organic for quality and authenticity.

Recommended Dose: Use spring or filtered water. Good water is an essential part of brewing a great cup of tea. Relax. Some of the most enjoyable aspects of tea are the calmness and ritual that surround it. Take some time for tea!

• Quick Brew Directions: Pour freshly boiled water over tea bags in your chosen mug, cover, and steep 5 to 7 minutes.
• Full Strength (decoction) Directions: When dried, Burdock is very tough ~ it needs to be gently simmered for maximum strength. Use a stainless pot and stainless or wooden utensils. Use one tea bag per cup of water, cover and bring to a gentle boil briefly, then turn down the heat and simmer for 10–20 minutes. Extra tea can be stored in a sealed glass jar for a day or two in the refrigerator.
